| Race Summary |
|---|
A. P. ARROW, never far back while racing between foes three or four wide under
light restraint, inched to challenge while continuing between foes on the far
turn, reached the front a quarter-mile out, was soundly bumped by BRASS HAT when
that one leaned in, lost the edge to the that rival, recaptured the advantage
about the sixteenth pole and was hard ridden the remainder. BRASS HAT followed
the leaders five wide, was put to a drive three furlongs out, drifted in for a
stride soundly bumping the winner at the three-sixteenths pole, reached the
front, lost the advantage back to A. P. ARROW in the final furlong and clearly
bested the others. DIAMOND STRIPES came out bumping MAGNA GRADUATE at the start,
raced near the inside, was steadied behind foes approaching the first turn,
raced three wide on the backstretch, continued between horses when briefly
lacking room on the far turn, came out and found an opening four or five wide in
the upper stretch but couldn't offer the needed impact when clear. ISTAN, taken
in hand and tucked in behind foes on the first turn, eased out six wide on the
backstretch, angled in four wide on the far turn, came out again to make his run
five wide into the final furlong but flattened out in the late going. FAIRBANKS
edged up soon after the start to press front-running PLUG ME IN three wide,
inched to challenge on the far turn, gained a slight edge, battled heads apart
to the head of the stretch and weakened. MAGNA GRADUATE, bumped at the break by
DIAMOND STRIPES when that one came out, raced forwardly under light rating two
wide to the stretch and, after being asked, came up empty. GOING BALLISTIC,
reserved early and angled to the rail, was outrun to the stretch, eased out six
or seven wide for the drive and never fired. PURIM, outrun and four or five wide
for seven furlongs, fanned wide for the drive but had no rally. PLUG ME IN moved
to the fore two wide early, showed the way for nearly six furlongs and weakened
thereafter.
