CHIEF EXPORT gained a clear lead on the first turn, went along under careful
handling, was joined on backstretch from the outside by CAPT SLEW, battled with
that one until the final quarter, kicked clear when asked, then after the rider
glanced back, was gathered up very late. CAPTAIN SLEW, lightly rated while
tracking the winner three or four wide, gained about even terms for the lead on
the far turn, continued up close into the stretch and couldn't match strides as
second best. TIGERVALLY, well positioned in behind the leaders from early on,
angled four wide nearing the lane to make a solid run but couldn't sustain the
needed momentum. CANELA, within striking distance to the stretch and four wide
most of the way, never rallied. SARATOGA'S MAGIC stalked the pace four wide,
raced within easy striking distance to the stretch, then flattened out. CRITICAL
ACCLAIM, unhurried early and racing near the inside for six furlongs, swung out
six wide for the drive and had no rally. GOLDEN LACES worked his way inside
early and never menaced.
