STRAIGHT LINE gained the lead at the break, was joined from the inside by CLOCK
STOPPER and headed, regained the edge from that one on the turn, drew clear and
was kept to his task. CHIEF EXPORT outrun to the stretch and saving ground
throughout, rallied from the rail and was up for the place. PRIVATE VOW tracked
the pace four wide, was on even terms with the winner while outside that one
entering the lane but weakened. LEVEL PLAYINGFIELD, within easy striking
distance and three or four wide, flattened out when the test came. COWBOY
HARDWARE, in contention to the stretch and two or three wide, was empty in the
drive. CLOCK STOPPER, slow to begin, was sent to the fore two wide, battled for
the lead the opening half, then faltered entering the stretch
